Ingredients:
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tbsp liquid smoke flavoring
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 stick butter
- 12 slices buttered bread on both sides (makes 6 grilled cheese)
- 6 slices American cheese
Directions:
1. Preheat a grill for high heat. In a medium bowl, lightly mix together the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, and garlic powder.
2. Form into 3 patties handling the meat minimally. Over handling will make the meat tough.
3. Brush both sides of each patty with some oil. Season with salt and pepper.
4. Place the patties on the grill grate and cook for about 5-8 minutes per side or until cooked to your liking. I sometimes cook these in an iron skillet also.
5. Saute sliced onion in butter in skillet until soft and done.
6. To make grilled cheese put buttered bread 2 at a time in large skillet. Brown both sides and add 2 slices cheese to each sandwich.
7. Put grilled hamburger and sauteed onions inside one grilled cheese sandwich.
8. Top with a second grilled cheese.
